KPCC to Host Fiorina and Boxer Second Debate

The second debate between Sen. Barbara Boxer and Republican challenger Carly Fiorina is set to take place Wednesday at the Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) network headquarters. The two will engage in a radio debate hosted by La Opinion and public radio station 89.3 KPCC-FM.



The debate will air 1 to 2 p.m. on Patt Morrison’s program. Morrison and La Opinion's metro editor, Gabriel Lerner, will moderate.

Honda now Presenting Sponsor of the Rose Parade

Tournament official; “50-year Partnership Evolves from Rosebud to Full Bloom”



Honda Motor Co., Inc. made Rose Parade history Tuesday night becoming the first Presenting Sponsor of the Rose Parade in its 122 year history.

Rose Bowl Financing Plan to be Released

As part of an update to the ongoing large scale Rose Bowl Stadium renovation project, city Council Member Victor Gordo, gave an overview Monday night of the involved timeline leading up to Jan. 11 when Phase I construction is set to begin.

Caltech to Launch New Terrestrial Hazard Center

The center will focus on developing innovative ways to reduce the risks and costs of natural hazards

Linda Wah to Fill PACCD Area 5 Vacancy

After two days of public interviews, the Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees voted late Friday to select Linda Wah to fill the vacancy created by the sudden resignation of Hilary Bradbury-Huang in July. Thousands of Pets and People to Wiggle Waggle Walk Again

The Pasadena Humane Society estimates thousands of people and their dogs will walk around the Rose Bowl Sep 26, all part of this year’s Wiggle Waggle Walk. The walk starts at 9 a.m. sharp with opening ceremonies at 8:45 a.m.

Local Democrat Headquarters Opens

Community Workshops to Look at City’s Growth

Pasadena City College Opens Veterans’ Resource Center

Pasadena City College has opened a Veterans’ Resource Center (VRC) this fall semester to address the needs of PCC’s student veterans. PCC was also recently voted a “Veteran-Friendly School” by G.I. Jobs, a website that provides career and educational resources for veterans. Only 20 percent of all colleges and universities in the United States received this distinction.

Whitman Makes Hushed Visit to Paseo

Gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman greeted a small group of woman last Sunday in the Paseo Colorado courtyard as part of ‘walk for a new California,’ organized by the female coalition MEGaWomen.

City Launches Local Emergency Alert System

City officials are asking residents to signup on their website for updates on wildfire danger, red flag parking restrictions and more through PLEAS (Pasadena Local Emergency Alert System) a program that, in the event of an emergency, sends a message with the latest information and safety instructions.

Playhouse Plaza Redesign Gets the Ok

The city’s design commission gave the go-ahead Monday night voting 5-1 stating there are no significant changes or new information that would trigger further environmental review for new construction of a six-story 159,829 square-foot mixed-use building that some say would dwarf the Pasadena Playhouse directly across the street.

Thousands expected In Annual Queen and Royal Court Tryouts

Out of thousands expected to take part in this year’s Tournament of Roses Queen and Royal Court Tryouts Sept. 18 and 20 only seven lucky women will be named, after a month-long try-out process, to the 2011 Royal Court.



The month long process will include quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. The 2011 court will be announced Oct. 11, and the queen announced Oct. 19. Both announcements will take place at 9:30 a.m. in front of the Tournament House.
